Absent

I have to apologize, I have been a little absent lately- both online and in life. For starters we are having a heat wave here in San Diego and it is making me a very unhappy gal! With 90 degree temps in our home, I just can't seem to think straight- I am moving slow and haven't been working in the studio as much as I had planned. Instead I have been taking lots of cold showers, swimming in the pool, escaping to the beach and reading lots of trashy vampire books! On top of the inconvenient weather, we've had a few really BIG challenges thrown our way in the last couple of weeks and I'm worried, tired and doing my best to not let things distract or throw me off track but I must admit it's hard!  This Monday morning I vowed to myself that I would stop being grumpy and hot, push through the worry and the challenges and just move forward with some hope!

Online Classes

I have been working on getting my creative life organized and now that I have more time, trying to plan out and fine tune my online classes. I have finally completed all the information for my fall and winter online workshops and while I have them posted here on my blog, I have been working on adding a new section to my website with my teaching and online class information. I am SOOOOO close to being done with it and will announce when it is live but I am working slower than usual due to the HOT weather here and the lack of AC in our home!! But here is the initial information for fall and winter online classes.....

ONLINE WORKSHOP MISSION

There are many online workshops out there at different prices with different content. When I decided to offer an online option, I set out to create a structure that is similar to taking a "live" class from me. My mission is to provide an affordable class with a learning environment that resembles a live class or retreat where you are watching demos, learning and then creating on your own during a limited amount of time. This means that all videos and lessons are only available during the dates that the class is offered. My philosophy is that this format inspires productivity, creativity and accountability in the creative process. Because of this I strongly recommend that if you are taking one of my online classes, you set aside time each week to access the lesson, watch the videos and then set aside time to create. I have created the weekly lessons with this format in mind.

ONLINE WORKSHOP FACTS

Classes runs for 5 weeks (except for the Haute Holiday class) and you will be able to access the site 1 month after the last lesson
Classes cost $50 (thats only $10 a week!!)
Classes will be held on a private blog that only registered students are able to access.
Basic computer skills are needed (be able to login, access a blog, etc)

THERE WILL BE:

TONS of photos
Step by step visuals
Over 20 video lessons (of yours truly teaching and demoing in my studio but not in my pj's)
Pdf download- outline of the entire class to take away from with you
Tips and lots and lots of inspiration to download.

A high speed connection if definitely recommended (because of the above!)
New lessons will be posted each Monday and throughout the week there will be additional posts full of inspiration, you will have the opportunity to work on projects at your own pace.
Supplies needed are very simple, inexpensive craft items- (I strongly believe creating art should not cost a lot of money!!)
Over the 5 weeks I will also include live and private chats AND as much email support as needed.

REGISTRATION:

Payment is accepted via PayPal (if you need an exception to this please email me and let me know).
Feel free to register anytime before the last day of class

Anti Scrapbook
Starts September 21st
runs 5 weeks
$50.00

For some reason I never took to traditional scrapbooking, in fact I just might loathe it! To begin with I am not traditional plus I am not very organized, I don't like all the products you feel pressure to buy, it seems to require lots of money spent, it takes a lot of time and quite frankly its just too organized and mainstream for me (please don't be mad traditional scrappers!)
But... I do LOVE taking pictures, in fact I take my camera everywhere, I love and appreciate documenting and preserving special moments, in true artistic form I enjoy putting my own creative, messy, recycled spin on photos and with a background in fine art- a completely unique approach to preserving memories! This class is for anyone out there ready to try something new with photos, scrapbooks, logging memories and preserving history, a class for those who don’t want to spend lots of money, who are ready to rebel when it comes to scrapbooking!
Prepare yourself for a little punk rock, paired with fine art, joined with nostalgia, meets recycling, loaded with TONS of creativity!

So Darn Cool!

I have been meaning to share these pictures (which make me OH SO HAPPY!!) from a new creative friend that I met when I was teaching at the last two ArtFiberFests.

When Juanita told me that she let her daughter and her friend splatter paint all over themselves for fun I squealed with glee that a mom would be cool with this...but when she sent me the pics- I rolled around on the ground with laughter...THIS IS SOOOOO DARN COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hyped up on Inspiration!

I have been hard at work in the studio since 6:30 am this morning and I am hyped up on inspiration!! My typical pattern is that when I step away from the studio, away from my own work, I return SUPER inspired! I have always been this way- something about taking a break from my own creative work (no more than 1 week though) that brings me back to more ideas and energy to create.  I finally am feeling like I can breath after 2 months of A LOT going on with travel, teaching and deadlines- a lot of work on preparation and just trying to keep my head above water. I am finally feeling like I am ready to sit down to try and organize this new life- make things better- streamline my ideas and my schedule and get down to some SERIOUS creating- new classes, new work and a new chapter!

Excuse me While I RAVE!

It is the end of my second day of teaching here at ArtUnraveled and while my hotel room is trashed with all of my supplies, I am tired and my voice is nearly gone... I am buzzing with creativity and pure gratitude for all of the fabulous women in my classes. I love teaching but I always get a little nervous that things only make sense in my messy brain- that splatter, messy swipes, crawling around on the ground and all kinds of other stuff may not be interesting to other people.  But those worries always disappear within minutes when everyone exceeds my expectations and turns all of the techniques completely into their own- it is so inspiring to see creativity in action, to watch others working through their own creative fears, finding all kinds of new ways to express themselves with color, paint and texture.  Here are some photos from yesterday's Large Than Life class (tomorrow I will post pics from today's class!)

Excuse Me While I Rant

I typically don't get too personal or rant on my blog but a rude comment this morning that was left on my previous blog post has got me all riled up and quite frankly offended which means I feel the need to get a few things straight for those who follow me-

If you have an issue with me or anything that I post please send me a personal email instead of leaving an anonymous comment- while criticism is tough to hear I welcome the opportunity to personally address opinions through email.

If you have taken a class from me online and you are not satisfied please let me know so I can refund you money- All I want is to offer some reasonably priced online classes and to share my messy world with as many of you out there that are interested and for you to be happy with what you are learn.

I am running a creative business and my blog is the forum for me to make that happen- while there are many wonderful blogs out that are more personal and more of a journal- my blog serves as the way that I communicate and market my little business.  I am a VERY private person and try very hard to keep personal details about my life to a minimum and really just focus on my creative life and journey as an artist which is now my full time profession and is all about the process of making and selling my art.

For those of you out there (SO MANY OF YOU!) who have supported and followed me through it all...thank you!!! I appreciate all of the amazing blog love that I receive everyday and I continue to find inspiration in all of you who on your own artistic journeys and are creating amazing work!!!

Now back to regular scheduled programming :)

I have been a little behind with sharing student work from my online classes! So since another round of my class Graffiti Chic just started last week I thought I would share work from the last class which was 5 weeks in May as a little preview of what to expect!

If you are looking for a really fun, messy and totally freeing class in the comfort of your own home...this class is for YOU!! I am always completely surprised and TOTALLY inspired to see how people put their own spin on the techniques that I teach and once again the May class blew me away!!! Here are a few student samples
